Unlimited Symposium - Live Screening in Glasgow

Ahead of Tramway's Unlimited Festival,  a showcase for exciting work made by disabled artists, Glasgow residents were invited to join this special event.

The Unlimited Symposium was a disabled-led, two-day discussion event aimed at both a national and international audience across the cultural sector. The event took place in London, with the opportunity to watch the event, and take part in the discussion, online. You can see the recordings of the symposium here.

Day 2 of the symposium was live screened at Tramway, supported by The Work Room, Disability Arts Online and me! This was an opportunity for people to watch the event in a friendly and social environment. We had a lovely chat.

Here I am sharing the notes that we took from the session.

VISIBILITY: A conversation from Tramway's Unlimited Festival 2016

A second conversation in the series of four that happened as part of 2016 Tramway Unlimited Festival, this time exploring the theme of VISIBILITY with three amazing artists and activists.

Interestingly, I was not visible for this conversation (or in fact, any of them - Daisy Douglas stepped in to host in my place). My hypermobility syndrome exploded for a number of reasons that I will happily share in another post. My hope had always been to support the conversation more but I am sure you'll agree that Liz Carr, Christine Bylund and Jak Soroka did a really fantastic job of exploring this theme.

WHAT IS UNLIMITED: A conversation from Tramway's Unlimited Festival 2016

As part of Tramway's Unlimited Festival in 2016 I worked with some amazing artists, producers, curators and activists to present a programme of artworks, workshops and conversations that responded to themes identified in discussion with key people in the Scottish arts sector.

In this first chat, Tim Nunn who programmed Tramway's Unlimited Festival, Jo Verrent, Unlimited's Senior Producer and artist Marc Brew explore the question; What is Unlimited.

Evolving the conversation at Tramway's Unlimited Festival 2018

So, suddenly, here we are in 2018!

It seems only moments ago that Tramway's Unlimited Festival 2016 happened - have things changed for disabled artists? Have we moved on?

The conversation still needs to be had, that's for sure, and I was delighted to further this chat among friends old and new at The Work Room, Tramway and Disability Arts Online live screening event for Unlimited Symposium 2018.

In October 2018, Tramway will hold another Unlimited Festival. The page links at the top of this blog will take you to the detailed info about the great performances, exhibitions, installations and events that you can be part of.

For the festival, I've been working with my brilliant collaborator Daisy Douglas and Tramway to develop a panel discussion that evolves the themes of the 2016 festival.

These were VISIBILITY, INTERSECTIONALITY, COMMITMENT and EVOLUTION.

Being a Disabled Artist: Relevance, Representation & Resilience will be a place of conversation and supported interactions with artist peers, their collaborators and the sector. Placing artists at the heart of the conversation is vital and I hope everyone will leave with a new idea or action.

In the lead up to this event on 20th October at Tramway, I will be sharing some of the documentation to come out of the 2016 festival and exploring the themes with our contributors and community.
